Infinite Ink / Maurice Flanagan

We live in a world of increasingly intelligent and sophisticated simulations. In the past, software was constructed as a series of if-then-else logic running on a CPU - linear, predictable, engineered. Today, sophisticated software is constructed as a simulation - dynamic, surprising, organic. These systems are not commanded by us, they are collaborators, peers.

Interacting with these new systems requires a new mindset. Instead of focusing on logic and control, we need to practice applying our intuition, curiosity and a search for flow. 

Infinite Ink explores collaboration between humans and simulations through the creation of visual art. At the center of the system is a custom built, high resolution, real-time fluid simulation running on a state of the art GPU.

I incorporate audio and video to tune the colors and the fluid dynamics and use my intuition and curiosity to find states of flow while watching the system evolve. I…
